In chapter 7 of our textbook we talked about the different social groups. A social group is two or
more people who identify with and interact with one another. There are two different types of social
groups. One is a primary group and the other is a secondary group. Along with social grouping we
have social diversity, which classifies people by race, class, and gender. They also outline mass
media and social media. Mass media is the development of social media. We learned that mass
media was first invented back when the printing press came along when the print began to use
transmitted signals. Social media is so important now a days that it is a major part of our culture.
They also talk about the importance of technology for most jobs these days. We use email, facebook,
google, almost every search engine for local jobs because that is now the only way you can
communicate with your coworkers or even your boss. Social media takes up a major part of our
social lives but you really need to use it to keep up with society because without it you are out of a
lot of information. Social media was first used with FDR when he gave fireside chats to help ed the
great depression.

more time on electronic devices than playing outside now more than ever before. Also how social
media has become a drug to us. We are obsessed with our phones and checking facebook, twitter,
instagram, ect as a normal thing.

One thing I can do to benefit myself and society is to use my phone only when necessary for work,
school, etc.

In a negative way I would affect society is to constantly be on my phone, computer, any electronic
device and encourage others to do the same.
