Week 1: 9/4/18

In week one of our sociology class we learned that sociology is the systematic study of
human society. We got to know our classmates and professor in ways that you might
not in other college classes. We learned that sociology is much like science but relies
on research to understand. Sociology is what guides people's thoughts or in other words
explains how society influences our life choices. We also learned that society is the main
cause of most problems in our world. The main reason for sociology is to generate society.
For a sociologist to transform society they must look at the bigger picture using a global
perspective which is why depending on which country you live in you are said to live in a
high, middle, or low-income counties. These are important because where we live shapes
the life we live and other countries’ actions shape our way of life. Another thing I found
interesting about this chapter was positivism, or a scientific approach to knowledge based
on “positive” facts as opposed to mere speculation.
This video outlines the reasons as to why we do anything we do or why we are who we are.
The video explains why we listen to certain music, why we celebrate certain holidays, why or
who continues their education after high school, ect. Everything we know or do in life depends
on where we have grown up and many other factors in our lives.
To benefit myself and society I can decide to eat healthier. By checking the labels on the
things I eat for healthy things I can try to influence others in lowering the obesity in this world.
To affect society in a negative way would be too spend too much time on my phone
throughout the day. Spending too much time on my phone would result in being anti-social.
It is a good thing win our world to be commutative so that we can work with our peers to make
this world a better place to live and grow.
Society helps shape my ability to live with people. By this I mean that society has many ways
of making people interact with people they have never met before or barely know. This is a way
helping people get to know others.
Society has a negative impact on us by coming up with so many new technological things like
phones, computers, gaming tools. This is taking our attention away from reality and consuming
us into a fake online world. Which is making us less communicative with others around us.

Solution to this problem: Spend less time on social media or even our cell phones. If you
need to talk to someone who is a close friend and doesn’t live miles and miles away, take a
drive to their house and have a real conversation. Or if they live in the same town as you, take
a nice walk or even bike ride over to their house. We could bring bake brunch dates and letter
writing and then social media won't be as big of a problem to us.

10/5/18   Today in class we watched a  video  where they asked what kids think family is.  They're  answers were things like married parents, live together, do activities together. This video was shown to us because family is the biggest component of socialization.    In  everyday  life people act on a stage to get your vote, money. Everyone is performing every day of their  life .  Your  behavior status is your role in the play. If people don’t earn their  title  in our  society  you will get a bad title. You must earn your role in the play, a teacher will play her role by doing her job, by teaching in school every day. All the roles in our  society  with act out the script in our lives. You need to build up  your confidence in our society to play your role. Your role is also affected by your status in our society, you go to  school,  so you need to come to  class...
9/28/18   Today in class we talked about Erikson, Piaget, and Kohlberg’s theories on aging for humans. The three people have different theories on the stages of development in life. Erik so n believes you never stop developing. He has 7 different stages unlike Kohlberg having three and  P iaget who believes  you ' re  done after about age 12. In my opin i on, I believe that Erikson ' s stages make more sense. I think you truly don’t ever stop dev elo ping because throughout your life you are supposed to make dec i sions whether those d eci sions include your career, your children's car e er, or even if you are going to have children or not.  Even when you think your life is done and you can just sit back  and  relax you  can't  because you still have duties like paying bills and things like that or family to watch grow up or raise them. They also say your brain doesn’t even  develop  till the ages of about 21-25. This is crazy...
10/2/18   In class today, students went in front of the class and shared their life map projects to explain their life. They also told us about the theories that they applied to their life map stops.  We learned about the important parts in some of the students in the  class's  lives. Many had said that their birth, some birthdays, and schooling were important parts of their lives. Some had vacations on their life map as well. In my life map my 10 important stops were my birth, my sister being born, family  vacation  to  Florida , my  parents'  divorce, moving into a new house, new school, I broke some bones, 16 th  birthday, 18 th  birthday, graduation, and starting college.    We talked about how in different school stages, such as college and high school, there are different ways of learning in class and how we need to figure some things out on our own at some points in our life.    We also watch...
