09/14/18 This week in class we corrected our take home quizzes which took up a good part of our class period. While correcting our quizzes we talked about suicide prevention month which is September. We talked about how important it is to not be alone during this month. To not feel as if you aren't as good as everyone else. You should be nice to others as well. You should think about others and how they have things going on in their lives just as much as you do. If you were rude to someone in a public setting, or really anywhere, without you knowing, that could be their last straw. That could be the time they decide, hey, I am done. I can't do this anymore, I have had enough. That is when they commit suicide. 9/12/18 Today in class the main things we talked about were problems in our world and social media. In my opinion, social media is a big problem in our world. People have become so caught up in their electronic devices, social media, and overall technology that we forget about the real world around us. People see Facebook, Instagram, snap chat all as ways to socialize when really they are just thinking about themselves. I myself do use all of those things so i guess you could say i'm part of the problem too, but what do you expect when that is what our world revolves around these days. Everywhere you go people will ask you for your email to send you coupons or deals, why can't you find those in news papers? Businesses have you like their pages on Facebook to see what upcoming events they will be having. Over all social media is affecting relationships with others. Week 1: 9/7/18 In chapter 7 of our textbook we talked about the different social groups. A social group is two or more people who identify with and interact with one another. There are two different types of social groups. One is a primary group and the other is a secondary group. Along with social grouping we have social diversity, which classifies people by race, class, and gender. They also outline mass media and social media. Mass media is the development of social media. We learned that mass media was first invented back when the printing press came along when the print began to use transmitted signals. Week 1: 9/4/18 In week one of our sociology class we learned that sociology is the systematic study of human society. We got to know our classmates and professor in ways that you might not in other college classes. We learned that sociology is much like science but relies on research to understand. Sociology is what guides people's thoughts or in other words explains how society influences our life choices. We also learned that society is the main cause of most problems in our world. The main reason for sociology is to generate society. For a sociologist to transform society they must look at the bigger picture using a global perspective which is why depending on which country you live in you are said to live in a high, middle, or low-income counties.
