Today in class we talked about how the whole world becomes your book in life. You start as a young child first born seeing the world for the first time, everything is new to you. You continue to grow throughout the ages of your life and learn something new almost every day. You learn how to talk, how to act, how to do everything you are able to do now in your life. How you grow in your life all depends on the culture you grow up in. Different cultures have ways of doing everything they do. We watched a video on Mongolians and they have toilets that are in the ground that people squat over just because that is the way they have always done it. To them it isn’t weird for people to see children squatting down in public to pee in random places, this is just how they were raised in their culture. As part of culture, we think these are weird ways of doing things. We weren't raised in that culture so we find it odd. In the united states, or even just Wisconsin for that matter we are lear...
9/21/18 This week in class we talked about cultural diversity. This is when there is many different cultures in a society. America has a multicultural society that includes African, Native American, Asian, Polynesian, and Latin American people. Couterculturaism is when the norms come into play. We have people who are norms, which are usual or normal around society and then people wwho aren't norms and people look at them differently because they don't do the exact things that the “norms” do. We also talked about the difference between something that is discovered and something that is invented. The internet is invented while an x-ray is discovered. An invention is something that is created or designed while something discovered is something that is unexpectedly found or found in the course of a search. The x-ray was found while Wilhelm Roentgen was conducting an experiment and then discovered a ray that he did not plan to find. We then discussed in class a...
Today in class we talked about  culture.  Culture depends a lot on where you live. For instance, if you live in  Wisconsin  your culture will consist of beer, cheese, and hunting rather than New York where your culture might consist of fancy dining, fancy clothes, and visits to the Statue of Liberty. We don’t think about how different our cultures are compared to everyone  but  if   you’d   pay  attention it is very different from person to person. A girl in the class also had talked  about how different Minnesota is from Wisconsin and  they’re  right next to each other. She had said that Wisconsin college students are a lot different from  Minnesota  college students, Wisconsin students tend to drink and party a lot more often.   We also had touched on  subcultures,  which is a culture inside a larger culture. Examples of these would be people with religious groups or just having different intere...
